Dr. Umar Ardo publicly declared that he will challenge the registration of the NDC in court, arguing that the process through which the party was approved was illegal and irregular.
This development comes just as Nigeria’s political space is heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections, because of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso defection to the party.
Ardo’s central claim is lack of due process, said NDC allegedly bypassed proper registration procedure. He said the NDC did not go through INEC’s standard application and screening process.
According to him, the party failed to meet legal and administrative requirements expected of new political parties. INEC admitted that NDC was registered following a court judgment, not through the normal approval route.
Ardo argues this creates legal inconsistency and unfair adadvantage.
He also claimed that NDC did not properly submit required documents (constitution, manifesto, executive list) and was not fully processed through INEC’s official portal
He described the process as irregular and possibly a “backdoor entry” into party status.
ADA is angry because ADA was among 171 associations that applied for registration. They claim they followed all requirements, Paid fees and submitted documents, even passed initial screening. Yet they were not registered, while NDC was approved.
He claimed that this action creates a perception of bias or inconsistency by INEC. Ardo insists this is not just politics. His position is that any party registered outside legal procedures undermines democracy, and the situation could damage public trust in elections.
The court must clarify whether INEC and the judiciary acted properly, He also said the lawsuit may extend to any other party registered improperly, not just NDC.
He further states that such act could affect 2027 elections, if the court rules against NDC, the party could be deregistered and this would affect politicians aligning with it
But many people has began to question this move to sue NDC, was it because of Obi and Kwankwaso? Why he didn't sue them long time ago? Why now, that Obi just joined the party, is it true that they don't want Obi to contest come next election? What's your take on this?
